RockNet was utilized in the orchestra pit to broadcast the sound at the public viewing of Verdi's opera Rigoletto in Wiesbaden.Wiesbaden, Germany, June 10, 2007 --- Enjoy a Verdi opera in the open air in a folding chair? This can be a truly out-and-out sound experience, with the right sound technology. At the live broadcast of Rigoletto on the Bowling Green of the Wiesbaden National Theatre, the sound technicians went into high gear deliberately because they were not able to rehearse before the event. Not only did RockNet save time and labor in setup under these conditions but also provided great flexibility for the audio distribution. At the FOH, the experienced sound engineer Joachim Jakob, used a Yamaha M7CL mixing desk. The required sync of sound and image was a particular challenge. The RockNet digital technology was particularly advantageous here. The Yamaha console was connected through the RN.342.M7 interface. Around 30 channels were fed with real-time signals in the orchestra pit. "The analogue signals were fed into RockNet RN.301.MI A/D converters in the orchestra pit and transmitted from there thru a repeater station with two RN.333.DI via CAT5 cable to FOH." “The repeater was necessary between orchestra pit and FOH owing to the total cable length of 250 m", said Arnd Janus, Media Numerics’ CEO. Among other things, a total of 500m CAT5 cable was laid over the roof of the Colonnades for the way there and back - an installation that would have been almost impossible with analogue multi-core and would have taken considerably more time. Arnd Janus summed up: "As tragic as the fate of Rigoletto may be: our powerful audio-transport system RockNet passed a further endurance test and live conditions in Wiesbaden with flying colors."
